Ever since dad died in October of 1995, I have been finding single tails-up pennies. They seem to appear especially when I have had a trying day. The first time I remember seeing one was right after mom's procedure to "unclog" the first stent she had inserted. It was Saturday, April fool's day (ironic, I know) and I was by myself at Oakwood Hospital. Even the waiting room was empty and dimly lit by only the security lights. I was praying non-stop for mom's recovery when the doctor came in and told me that the procedure had been successful and she was no longer in danger. I went to the phone to call one of you, and was asking dad for a sign that mom would truly be OK. As I finished dialing the phone (or pushing buttons, can we really call it dialing anymore?), I looked down and noticed a tails up penny on the floor. Amid my tears I bent down to pick it up and immediately thought of Dad. It would be just like him to send a tails up penny, reinforcing his disbelief in "luck". So now, not only do I think it is a sign from dad when I pick up one of these "tails up" pennies, I also remember that God controls our lives, not luck. The other strange thing is that when I told my family about this, they reported also finding singular tails-up pennies. Megan found one in the living room just the other day and handed to me saying "Grandpa says 'hi" If you go to the cemetery and find one (or two) on mom and dad's grave marker, don't be surprised. Megan put them there shortly after mom's death, and last time I was there, they hadn't moved...despite being mowed over, rained on, etc. Prior to mom's death, I would just put them in my change jar, but since her death I have been collecting them in dad's old coin purse. I currently have about 20, the most recent being found just a few minutes before starting this post!
